3rd Annual Veterans Honor Convoy

May 20, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Rabun County’s  3rd Annual Veterans Honor Convoy will be rolling through on Armed Forces Day – Saturday May 20, 2017. They are asking every man and woman who has worn our military uniform with honor to participate. All you have to do is ride down the road and wave at folks – or just ride and let them wave at you!! This year they would like to ‘highlight’ our Vietnam veterans – it sure is about time we said “Thanks” to all those brave men and women who sacrificed so much for us.

They ask all the VN vets to please register – if you will go to Clayton City Hall and see Kayla Talley she will give you a form to give us your rank, name and branch of service. Please do this as soon as possible so our wonderful sign maker has time to get your magnetic sign ready to go on your vehicle. Or, you can reply to this email with that info and I’ll make sure you are on the list.

  • The Legion is also looking for donations to help cover the cost of the signs – check payable to American Legion, P O Box 403, Clayton, GA 30525. Please put Convoy on the memo line.
This is not restricted to Rabun County vets

Any veteran in the region is welcome to join the convoy. Members of the Patriot Guard from Atlanta and from North Carolina will be leading the convoy down the road.

The route will be reversed this year – the ride will begin lining up at Rabun Gap Nacoochee School at 9:00am. Participants should go in the Main Gate where some very nice folks will be able to direct you to your area. There will be space available there to leave vehicles not in the convoy if we have some classic vehicles for our VN vets to ride in. The convoy should leave the campus at around 10:00 am going south to Kelly’s Creek Road – left on Kelly’s Creek to Hwy 246 then to 441 and come down through Dillard. We will follow old 441 through Clayton to Tiger before coming out at Goats on the Roof. The convoy will terminate at Tallulah Falls Middle School where we’ll have light refreshments for our Veterans and their families. There will also be a Local Heroes parade to precede the Convoy through Clayton.

Tallulah Falls is asking that all the residents of Tallulah Falls will turn out and stand along the Tallulah Falls section of the Convoy route – put up flags – banners and signs – and let our veterans know how much Tallulah Falls really appreciate them!!  We anticipate the convoy to arrive and pass through Tallulah Falls on the main four lane Highway around 10:30 am.
