REGULAR MEETING

JANUARY 7, 2016 MINUTES

The regular monthly meeting for January 7, 2016 of the City Council of Tallulah Falls, Georgia was called to order at 5:00 0’clock p.m. by Town Administrator/Clerk McKean.

PRESENT WERE:

  • Councilperson Teri Dobbs
  • Councilperson Bill Coldren
  • Councilperson Larry Hamilton
  • Town Administrator/Clerk Marcia McKean

OTHERS PRESENT: Kimberly Brown, the Northeast Georgia; see attached list (for attachment, contact Town Clerk)

 

The meeting was turned over to Mountain Judicial Circuit Superior Court Judge B. Chan Caudell. Judge Caudell swore in the following: Dan A. Hayes, Mayor; Bill Coldren and Teri Dobbs, Councilpersons. Oaths attached hereto and made a part hereof.

Judge Caudell remarked how important community is; particularly here in the mountains, and we value our community and our friendships.

Mayor Hayes stated he would like to save the history of Tallulah Falls and at the same time move forward with some things the Town might need to attract visitors to stay.

A Motion was made by Councilperson Coldren to accept the minutes of the November 1 8, 2015 meeting. The Motion was seconded by Councilperson Hamilton and passed unanimously.

Attorney Report:      Allyn Stockton stated the Lease with Georgia Power needs to be signed so that the Town can receive the monies agree upon.

Councilperson Hamilton made the Motion authorizing the Mayor to sign the Lease with Georgia Power; seconded by Councilperson Coldren. The Motion passed unanimously.

Financial Report: Attached hereto and made a part hereof. (for attachment, contact Town Clerk)

 

Town Clerk McKean requested authorization to obtain bids for new carpeting and windows for the Town Hall. Cost of same inclusive with Habersham County SPLOST 6.

Councilperson Dobbs made the Motion authorizing obtaining bids for replacement carpet and windows for Town Hall; seconded by Councilperson Hamilton. The Motion passed unanimously.

Street Report: NONE

Mayor Hayes commented the paving on Hickory Nut Mountain Road looks good.

Public Safety Report: Councilperson Coldren stated the fire department will soon hold an election to elect department officers.

Councilperson Coldren stated in October, 2015, the Council approved dental insurance for Chief Goatcher and Sgt. Nall. However, the portion of the premium was not determined. Therefore, Councilperson Coldren made the Motion that the Town pay one-half of the employee’ s premium for dental insurance; seconded by Councilperson Hamilton. The Motion passed unanimously.

Mayor’s Comments: Mayor Hayes thanked the police officers and volunteer firefighters for all they do for the Town.

Mayor Hayes appointed the following: Councilpersons Hamilton, Roads & Street Commissioner; Coldren, Public Safety Commissioner; Dobbs, Water Commissioner, and Goatcher, Mayor Pro Tem.

Mayor Hayes announced there will be a “lighthearted” Town hall meet and greet for residents to get acquainted with Mayor and Council on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 6 0’clock p.m. No Town business will be conducted.

Councilperson Dobbs made the Motion to adjourn; seconded by Councilperson Hamilton. The Motion passed unanimously.

The meeting adjourned at 6:03 p.m.
